Caverne du Dragon Museum

Former quarry used as a shelter during World War I, now a scenographic museum at Oulches-la-Vallée-Foulon.

Known since the Middle Ages as the "Creute du Dragon", this underground quarry was originally dug to extract stone for nearby buildings. During WWI it became a strategic shelter, contested between French and German troops sixteen metres beneath the Chemin des Dames ridge.

An immersive staging

The museum offers a one-hour guided tour through reconstructed galleries: dormitories, underground chapel, first-aid post, period graffiti. Light, sound and texture combine to evoke the soldiers' experience.

Above ground

The outdoor memorial and viewpoint open onto the wider valley. A free trail extends the visit toward the Californie plateau and Hurtebise farm.

Who is it for?

Suitable for adults and children aged eight and over. A family-friendly tour runs on Wednesdays in summer.
